No 2012 ZL1 Allocation
Just top follow up - I do not have any 2012 ZL1 allocation left. There is LESS ZL1 allocation available than the number of Chevy dealers in the USA in 2012.
The demand for the ZL1 FAR outweighs the supply (can you say MARK UP?) which means the dealer who haven’t sold their allocation, more than likely will be selling a car OVER MSRP on their lot soon.
If you want a ZL1, chances are you will be getting a 2013. If you want to place a deposit to get on the list for ordering a 2013, by all means, contact me. If you can be PATIENT, everyone wanting a ZL1 SHOULD BE able to GET ONE as a 2013 model - this means more cars at or less than sticker. Those who want 2012′s, it’s going to sting…. and what about potential changes / improvements to the 2013? It can only get better
Can’t get a ZL1 ? How about a… ZL610 Vette?
As much as I like the Camaro, and the Camaro ZL1, you just can’t beat a nice custom car, made by a company with a little Chevy History…. A car that is SERIOUS eye candy for me is SLP’s ZL610 Corvette.
ZL1 Camaro or ZR1 Corvette lovers have to give this think a look -
I’d be more than happy to save you money on this car – we are VERY PRICE FLEXIBLE on the Corvette, and help keep the cost down on getting one, especially equipped with an SLP Upgrade. Just contact me at (262) 573-1702 today!
Check out the .pdf from SLP, that has engine, interior, and other exterior shots. Download it by clicking here ZL610 Dealer Brochure

LOSS of ZL1 Warranty ? ?
Are you expecting your ZL1 soon? You may want to carefully check your paperwork for the correct delivery date.
If your dealer didn’t work out a “final” delivery date in advance with your knowledge or peremission, ALWAYS be sure to look at the paperwork. Because the date on the paperwork (if earlier than your actual pick up date) will be the start date of you warranty.
You could always have someone run your VIN in GM VIS to verify the warranty start date, just to be sure -
There may be goods reason to do this, but you shoiuld be aware of them as well as agree to them in advance.
ZL1 Update & DELAY !
Dealers who have cars built in the initial order submission should expect “a longer than usual shipping process”. This means dealers should not expect the cars until early to mid-March. This is so they go through a thorough QA process.
The GOOD news is, the carbon fiber weave is now OFF constraint for future orders -
Stay tuned…….

ZL1 is coming down the line…
and other dealers are drooling, knowing they will be marking them up $10,000, $15,000 or more depending on their location.
I know even though we’re getting a small number to start, our customers are glad to know their ZL1 will not have any added mark up.
I actually have no one on my ZL1 convertible list, and there will be room for 2013 models.
Here’s Rick Hendrick driving his off the line:
Come on Chevy….really…?
You invite some “we drive all brand” car bloggers to drive the ZL1 at the track…
A better invitation would have been to invite Jeff Bucknum (www.jeffbucknum.com) and myself for a days worth of fun with the car….capturing footage along the way for my 1200+ Facebook friends and countless Jeff Bucknum Racing fans. The look of fear on my face riding shotgun at high speeds would have been priceless!
And MAYBE we could have found an unwanted Mustang along the way that we could have seriously put to shame….
But that’s ok – I only market them, and sell them all over the USA – I understand. My job is at the desk, selling them as low as I can, beating other dealers prices…..and giving them 100+ new homes….. The rest is all in my dreams, and you can’t take that away ! I’ll just keep dreaming of that code name Super Camaro Beast running wild in the Hills of Michigan……

Chevrolet to Produce Corvette 427 Convertible

Chevrolet today unveiled the 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition – the fastest, most capable convertible in Corvette’s history – as well as a 60th Anniversary Package that will be available on all 2013 Corvette models.
“The 2013 model year will be historic for Corvette, marking its 60th Anniversary and the final year for the current ‘C6’ generation,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Global Marketing and Strategy for Chevrolet. “We couldn’t think of a more fitting way to celebrate these milestones than bringing back one of the most-coveted combinations in the brand’s history – the Corvette convertible and a 427 cubic-inch engine.”
The 60th Anniversary Package and 427 Convertible will make their public debut at the Barrett Jackson collector car auction in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Jan 21, and will arrive at U.S. Chevrolet dealers early this summer.
Corvette 427 Convertible Collector Edition
The Corvette 427 Convertible blends elements of the Z06 and ZR1 models to create the fastest and most-capable convertible in Corvette’s history.
Its heart is the 427-cubic-inch (7.0L) LS7 engine from the Corvette Z06. Rated at 505 horsepower (377 kW) and 470 lb.-ft. of torque (637 Nm), it is the most powerful engine ever installed in a production Corvette convertible – and, like the Z06, the 427 Convertible is only available with a six-speed manual transmission.
The LS7 was co-developed with the Corvette Le Mans-winning GT1 engine and features lightweight titanium connecting rods and intake valves, as well as racing-inspired high-flow cylinder heads and a dry-sump oiling system. It is assembled by hand at GM’s Performance Build Center, where customers who purchase the 427 Convertible Collector Edition can purchase the Corvette Build Experience option and assemble the engine that will power their new car.
Supporting performance elements in the Corvette 427 Convertible include the driveline and rear axle system from the Corvette Z06, a rear-mounted battery and standard Magnetic Selective Ride Control. The standard 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are wrapped in ZR1-style Michelin PS2 tires. Lightweight machine-face Cup wheels – introduced on the 2012 Corvette Z06 with Z07 and Corvette ZR1 with PDE performance packages – come standard and include unique gray-painted pockets. Black Cup wheels or chrome ZR1-style wheels are also available.
The 427 Convertible also features several carbon-fiber components that help reduce weight, including:
- Carbon fiber raised hood (introduced on the 2011 Z06 Carbon Edition)
- Carbon fiber Z06-style fenders
- Carbon fiber floor panels
- The “CFZ” carbon fiber front splitter and rocker panels are optional on the 427 Convertible, and included with the 60th Anniversary package
The weight reduction brings the 427 Convertible’s curb weight to 3,355 pounds (1,522 kg). Combined with its 505-horsepower LS7 engine, it gives the 427 Convertible a power-to-weight ratio of 6.64 – or one horsepower for every 6.64 pounds of vehicle mass. That’s better than:
- Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet – 6.90
- Audi R8 5.2 RSI Spyder – 7.58
- Aston Martin DBS Volante Convertible – 7.82
- Ferrari California Convertible – 8.31
The combination of low mass and high output will make the 427 Convertible one of the fastest convertibles in the world, delivering estimated 0-60 performance of 3.8 seconds, quarter-mile performance of 11.8 seconds, lateral acceleration of 1.04 g and a top speed of more than 190 mph.
The 427 Convertible is available in 2LT, 3LT and 4LT trim levels and will carry a unique vehicle identification number sequence, similar to the Corvette ZR1.
Corvette 60th Anniversary Package
All 2013 Corvette models, including the 427 Convertible, will be available with a 60th Anniversary Package, featuring an Arctic White exterior with a Blue Diamond leather-wrapped interior with suede accents. Convertible models will have a blue top.
Additional content includes a ZR1-style rear spoiler, special badging, gray-painted brake calipers and the “60th” logo on the wheel center caps, steering wheel and seat headrests. An optional graphics package adds full-length racing stripes in Pearl Silver Blue, including a tonal stripe stitched into the convertible top, extending the graphic theme over the roof.
For 2013, all Corvettes will feature 60th Anniversary badges on the fascias and the “waterfall” panel on convertible models, as well as 60th logos in the instrument panel gauge cluster and on the sill plates.
Charity Auction at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale
The first Corvette 427 Convertible offered to the public will go to the highest bidder at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale collector car auction, on Saturday, Jan. 21. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Drive to End Hunger food relief program.
Chevrolet and Hendrick Motorsports are teaming up for the auction, including Hendrick team driver and four-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Jeff Gordon. Team owner Rick Hendrick helped launch the Drive to End Hunger program with AARP and the AARP Foundation.
The Drive to End Hunger is part of a multi-year sponsorship for Gordon’s No. 24 Chevrolet. It calls on racing fans, corporations and charitable organizations to raise money, build awareness, and engage Americans who face the threat of hunger.
A legacy of 427-powered Corvettes
Early 427-powered Corvettes, particularly convertibles, offered from 1966 to 1969 are some of the most-coveted and collectable Corvettes ever produced.
The first 427-powered Corvette rolled off the assembly line for the 1966 model year. Two performance levels of the 427 were initially offered – an “L30” version rated at 390 horsepower and the “L72,” which cranked out 425 horsepower. Both were rated at 460 lb-ft. of torque.
The range of 427 engines grew in 1967, with the addition of the “L71” and “L88” options. The L71 added a unique triple-carburetor induction system that helped boost output to 435 horsepower. Known to collectors as “427/435” cars, these ’67 models – especially the convertibles – are especially sought-after collector cars.
The “L88” delivered 430-horsepower (with a single four-barrel carburetor) thanks to racing-tuned aluminum heads. Intended for customers who would immediately transform their new Corvette into a race car, the L88 was installed in just 216 production Corvettes between 1967 and 1969.
In 1969, a special “L89” 427 engine combined the L71’s induction system with the L88’s aluminum heads, offering maximum horsepower with an approximately 100-pound weight advantage over the standard iron heads. Also in 1969, Chevrolet built two “ZL1” 427 Corvette coupes. The ZL1 engine was essentially an all-aluminum version of the L88, with the aluminum cylinder block and heads offering a tremendous weight advantage for racing. More of the engines were sold as crate engines to racers.
By 1970, the big-block engine grew to 454 cubic inches, just as the trend in high-compression, high-performance engines was beginning to wane. The four-year run of 427 Corvettes was already established as the golden era of performance
Commemorative Collector Edition and Anniversary Edition models
Rare and low-production examples of the Corvette have been around since its 1953 introduction, but Chevrolet didn’t begin building commemorative models until 1978, when the 25th Anniversary model – also known as the Silver Anniversary Corvette – was offered. The Corvette was in its third generation then and at the close of that epoch in 1982, a Collectors Edition was offered, as well.
Those special models launched what has become a tradition for the Chevrolet Corvette, which has offered milestone anniversary and generational collector-edition models ever since. The 2013 Corvette 427 Convertible represents the first time a Collector Edition and Anniversary Edition are being offered in the same year – and available on the same car.
Below is a list of the Collector Edition and Anniversary Edition models, as well as production numbers and their distinguishing features.

2012 Chevy Superbowl Ad Contest
DETROIT – Independent film makers from 32 countries are offering their interpretations of Chevrolet’s “Everyday Hero” for a chance to have their 30-second ad aired during the telecast of Super Bowl XLVI. Now, fans can cash in by sharing with their friends their favorite spot among the top 35 entries featured on ChevroletRoute66.MSN.com.
Chevrolet and MOFILM, a global creative community, received 197 entries from film makers across the globe. The best spot as determined by Chevrolet will be shown during the big game on Feb. 5, 2012.
“With Chevrolet Route 66, we wanted to tap into the talents of creative people from every corner of the Earth to discover our next Super Bowl ad,” said Joel Ewanick, GM vice president and global chief marketing officer. “The submissions we received show that people from around the world share many of the same values and how Chevrolet plays a role in helping them along life’s road.”
Beginning today Dec. 22 and running through 6:59 p.m. EST on Jan. 25, 2012, eligible fans from Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Mexico, the United Kingdom and United States can watch, rate and share their favorite Chevrolet Route 66 film. Those who share their personalized link to the videos most often and give the most creative answer to the question “if you could drive to any destination in your home country, where would you go?” could win up to $10,000.
To engage fans, Chevrolet turned to Microsoft Advertising to create a contest hub to house and share the videos that offers a personalized experience with the ability to localize and share the global films.
“Because Chevrolet is sold in many countries, ‘crowd-sourcing’ content globally is a great way to find creative advertising that resonates with consumers,” said Ewanick. “Using that same concept, we hope to have fans identify their favorite ads for us by voting with their ‘clicks’ and sharing with friends.”
The Microsoft hub will identify registrants with unique user codes that will allow them to accumulate points every time they share with another fan. The top fans as measured by sharing will be tracked by the contest site leader board. To be sure the contest is won by a real person and not a web “bot,” the contest site will ask viewers to “confirm” by entering a valid email address.
Fans can enter the contest and view complete program details by visiting the contest website. Winners will be announced the within two weeks following the conclusion of the contest.

2030 Status on ZL1 Orders means……
Nothing really – the first round of allocation hits TOMORROW, December 15th. As I stated in a post last week, that should put the production to start sometime in February.
“Am I really at 2030? Is my order pulled?” – answer is – NO. You are NOT at 2030. Orders were edited by GM (to be determined soon) and if you would call your dealer (which is your BEST resource as they can also pull up order history such as this change.) Your order IS AT 1100. It WAS at 2030, because people are getting order change history on their status’s, NOT the CURRENT status -

Announcing Auction of the Military Tribute Camaro
DETROIT – At Saturday’s 112th Army-Navy Game presented by USAA, Chevrolet announced that proceeds from next month’s sale of a special Military Tribute Camaro will go to the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans.
Chevrolet is the official vehicle of what has been called “America’s Game.”
Chevrolet hosted several military families and Achilles team members at the game, and is paying tribute to wounded servicemen and women and the team with a 30-second TV spot and a short tribute to members who participated in the recent Detroit Free Press / Talmer Bank Marathon. An accompanying article at chevy.com/military profiles hand cyclist Lance Cpl. Justin Gaertner of Pasco County, Fla., who lost both legs while serving his third tour in Afghanistan.
“We at Chevrolet want to do all we can to show our gratitude to the men and women serving in our armed forces, those who come home with life-changing injuries, like Cpl. Gaertner, and our fallen heroes who have made the ultimate sacrifice for their country,” said Chris Perry, vice president, Chevrolet Global Marketing and Strategy.
CBS Sports will show the car in a segment with GM Chairman and CEO Dan Akerson, a U.S. Naval Academy graduate; Genna Griffith, director of the Achilles Freedom Team, and team members. Last year at the game, Chevrolet donated a Silverado HD pickup to the Achilles team to transport athletes’ hand cycles and other equipment.
The Military Tribute Camaro (Not to be confused with the “AMERICAN PRIDE” Camaro) — represents all five branches of the armed forces (Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force and Coast Guard) and some of the military’s highest individual awards and current campaign medals. It will be sold by Barrett-Jackson, an auctioneer of collector vehicles, at its Jan. 17-22 event in Scottsdale, Ariz.
The car was designed by award-winning artist Mickey Harris. Harris, who grew up on military installations, has been airbrushing for 33 years and has an extensive portfolio of military art that has earned him worldwide acclaim.
Chevrolet’s support for military men and women includes:
Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans: The Achilles Freedom Team helps wounded veterans of all services overcome their injuries through mainstream athletics, primarily marathons. It has doubled in size since 2010. This year, Chevrolet underwrote a portion of Achilles costs for participating in the Los Angeles, Boston and Detroit marathons, as well as other events. Chevrolet also has donated 20 hand cycles to the team.
Cell Phones for Soldiers: Chevrolet actively supports this program that provides phone cards to service men and women. During Chevrolet Military Appreciation Month in May, Chevrolet raised $212,000 (100,000 hours of talk time) from the auction of the Honor and Valor Limited Edition Camaro SS and Chevrolet donations of $100 for every car and truck sold. Since 2010, Chevrolet has collected more than 70,000 used cell phones, generating about 70,000 hours of talk time.
Travis Manion Foundation: The GM Foundation gave $250,000 to this foundation that assists veterans and the families of fallen heroes. Its namesake is First Lt. Travis L. Manion, killed in 2007 in Iraq by sniper fire while defending against an enemy ambush. Every September 11, the foundation brings local communities together for a 9/11 Heroes Run to remember, honor and support service men and women, police, firefighters and first responders.
GM Military Discount Program: Considered the most generous military discount program in the industry, GM offers GM Preferred Pricing (the same price extended to GM suppliers) on any Chevrolet (except Volt), Buick or GMC. Through October, GM sold 12,389 vehicles: The Chevy Silverado, Cruze and Camaro were the most popular.
Chevrolet also sponsored 19 air shows across the United States this year, eight of them on military installations. In addition, about 8,500 service members, their families and guests at the Naval Air Station in Mayport, Fla. were treated to a private concert starring country singer Brad Paisley.
Tenative 2012 ZL1 Production Start date is………..
So, it was expected the ZL1 would start production on January 2nd. Some order (too many in fact) were pulled, and with a misunderstanding and an omission in some option codes, they were all dumped back to 1100 status. To date, there has not been any ZL1 allocation to dealers, including this week’s build submission. That said, a January build seems to be in question.
The FIRST cycle to submit ZL1 orders (dealer allocation) will be next week. With the average 8 weeks from submission to production build week, this should place the ZL1 Production start the week of February 13th 2012.

A Soldier’s Thanksgiving…. Thank you all!
I know we are at war,
But I hear change is in sight
Instead of family and friends for Thanksgiving you will
Chow with your comrades tonight
One to your left, the other to your right.
Your regiment, your battalion,
Have now become family and friends
Living day to day in a personal sacrifice
On a mission to defend.
You are the hero’s who’s faces we may never get to see
But the pride and glory that’s lives in a soldier heart
Biers one word
“Integrity”
On this day
We give thanks and honor to those brave and true
Our banners, we will proudly wave
The Red, White, and Blue
We will give our thanks not only to our god
but also to every soldier for our bounties, that be.
For they give meaning to words
Home of the brave Land of the Free.
To the soldiers in the mess hall
Eating their thanksgiving feast,
to the troops in the desert eating another
Meal ready to eat.
May peace, hope and strength
Travel with you along the way
And may these wishes find you
On A Soldiers Thanksgiving day.
FORD IS “CHICKEN” ! ! ! FEAR THE ZL1 !
Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co. might have created the most buzz with the newest editions of their legendary pony cars.
Ford brought out its 650-horsepower 2013 Shelby GT 500, a car the automaker says can top 200 mph. While it has the same squared-off looks of other Mustangs, it’s all the work under the sheetmetal that is really impressive.
And to hear its engine rumble is automotive heaven.
The 2013 Camaro ZL1 convertible is equally as impressive, though it creates only 580 horsepower.
That didn’t discourage Joe Ewanick, vice president of GM’s marketing, from throwing a challenge at Ford.
“We should take a Camaro, Ford brings a Mustang, we each pick our drivers, and see who has the best time on the Nuremberg Ring,” Ewanick said, referring to the legendary race track in Germany.
Jim Farley, who heads Ford’s global marketing, was not swayed by the challenge (though it did appear he was biting his tongue slightly).
“I wish we could,” he said, after hearing about Ewanick’s challenge. “Who wouldn’t want to do that?”

Camaro Cheif Engineer Al Oppenheiser talks about the new Mustang….
Camaro Nation:
As you know, the blogs lit up with the announcement of the new 650-horsepower Mustang GT500, and I wanted to give you my perspective on the latest challenge from Dearborn.
The Mustang has been playing catch up since the moment the fifth-gen Camaro arrived in 2009. Since then, Camaro has been the best-selling sports car in America, indicating that consumers know which car offers the best performance, style and safety.
It is no coincidence that Mustang has introduced three 100-horsepower increases to keep pace with Camaro: First their V-6 was bumped to 305; then their V-8 went to 412, and now the GT500.
Even with the 100-hp increase, the 2013 GT500 will still not match the technology and sophistication of the 2012 Camaro ZL1.
The days of “no replacement for displacement,” are over, and it’s not enough to be fast in a straight line. With the Camaro ZL1, we set out to deliver integrated
performance, and be equally good at acceleration, braking, grip, and turning.
As you will soon see, that’s why the Camaro ZL1 will set the performance
benchmark for the segment.
Our approach was to make every Camaro ZL1 fully track-capable, from the factory. As we announced today, the ZL1 Coupe will start at $54,995 with standard Magnetic Ride Control, standard Performance Traction Management, and standard track-capable equipment such as a rear-differential cooler, brake cooling ducts, and an engine and
transmission cooler.
None of our customers will have to buy extra options – or modify their ZL1 – for track-day usage. That is not the case for the current GT500, or their new car.
For Mustang fans, you’re welcome. Clearly the Camaro has encouraged Ford to throw everything they can at us.
For Camaro fans, trust me, we are always listening to your feedback, and working hard to keep the Camaro in the lead.
Al O.
